A Sonnet: To Summer
Throughout the long winter I look on you,
A constant star, a guide in winter’s night.
after long labour and work, your time is
due,
my greatest desire, harbour’s green light.
For summer is the time that I am free,
I feel the wind move through the cedar trees
With all those hearts that I love next to
me,
I close my eyes and I can finally breathe
Far too quickly gone, and far too fleeting,
Sepia-cover’d photos; long days spent
Trying to catch the sun’s crimson weeping
Too quickly back to sable sand, heart bent
Living for moments, living in stasis
living for summer, a brief oasis.
